Terms of service

1. The service

loveLINK carries letters between two people and delivers them on the full moon. It is provided by Aerial Giant Inc. — we, and us, throughout these terms. The service is not free: a basic stamp costs one shilling. Fancier ones can be acquired for more. The price of the stamp affixed on your letter has no impact on delivery.

2. What the moon is

Nothing is carried into orbit, and no envelope leaves the ground. Your letter is encrypted on your own device, travels as data over the ordinary internet, and is held until the next full moon, when it is released to the person it is addressed to. The celestial language — the moon, the dispatch window, the carrier we call Lunastamp Logistics — is a conceit: it is how a service designed by Aerial Giant Inc. describes its own timing, and not a claim about where anything goes.

3. Shillings

loveLINK does not supply a currency, and does not issue or recognise any money called a shilling. A shilling is an in-game unit — a way of counting carriage inside loveLINK — and nothing more: it is not money and it is not legal tender. One shilling is enough to carry one letter, one way. A shilling cannot be exchanged or redeemed for money outside the service, and it holds no value outside loveLINK.

4. Your handle and your password

Your handle is your address and it is public. Claim one handle per person; an account may hold one at a time.

Your password both signs you in and encrypts your letters. We hold no key and cannot reset it. If you lose your password and your recovery code, your letters are unrecoverable. This is a term of the service, not a support limitation, and by using loveLINK you accept it.

You are responsible for keeping your password and recovery code safe, and for what is written from your account.

5. How correspondence works

• Every moon has one dispatch window. It opens with the arrival of a new moon — the moon that will become full and carry your letter out — and it closes when the moon is half-lit on the way up, the moon's first quarter. No mail of any kind is accepted outside that window.
• While the dispatch window is closed, nothing may be dispatched — not a new letter, and not a reply.
• One letter each way, per moon. A reply must be dispatched before it's half-lit on the way up, which is also when that moon's dispatch window closes. If it is not, the correspondence closes automatically and both handles open again.
• One correspondence at a time. A letter on its own is an approach, and it binds nobody: you may write to somebody new every moon, and several people may write to you. A correspondence begins when the other person writes back — from then on you write to each other, one letter each way per moon, and neither of you may write to anyone else. A moon that goes unanswered ends it and both handles are free again; the side whose letter went unanswered may not write to the other again, and the other may write to them.
• You may end a correspondence without the other person's agreement: the moon's one letter, sent to another name, lapses it at the moment it is dispatched. There is no other way to end one by hand — a correspondence otherwise ends by itself, when a moon goes unanswered.
• Letters already in transit when a correspondence closes are not recalled and may still be delivered.

6. Age

You must be 18 or over to use loveLINK.

7. Acceptable use

• Do not use loveLINK to harass, threaten, defraud or deceive anyone.
• Do not write to someone who has asked you to stop.
• Do not attempt to break, overload or reverse-engineer the service, or to open a mailbox that is not yours.
• Do not use the service where doing so would break the law that applies to you.

We may suspend or close an account that breaks this section. Because we cannot read letters, such action is taken on the basis of the correspondence record and complaints, not on the contents of what was written.

8. Availability

loveLINK is offered as it is. We aim to keep the service running, but we do not promise uninterrupted service. The moon is not a service we control: if a delivery is delayed by a fault, it is delivered on the next full moon, and no correspondence is counted as missed because of our failure — the deadline moves with the delivery.

9. Liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of loveLINK, including lost letters where a password or recovery code has been lost. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

10. Changes

These terms may change; the date at the top changes with them. Continuing to use loveLINK after a change means you accept it.
